In a game that could hopefully turn Pelham's season around they scored a giant victory at the hands of the Dartmouth Drillers Friday night at Mainland.

Coming into the game minus, Heighton, Comar and the Priests, things didn’t look great, but the rest of Pelham battled hard and never quit. They stormed back from 6-0 in the 5th to score 5 and cut the lead to one, they continued to play catch up the entire night, until some clutch hitting came together in the 8th and 9th to tie the game.

Pelham was trailing by one going in to the 9th when they found themselves with runners on 1st and third with 1 out. Jay Henman who already had a couple of hits in the game squared to lay a bunt down that Dartmouth picked up and threw to first. When the play developed Graham Bona broke for home on the throw and made it safely to tie the game in the 9th.

We saw extra innings for the first time this season and Graham Bona who scored the tying run was pitching his 7th inning of the night and becoming tired. He found enough grit to sit the Drillers down in order in the top half of the 10th, setting the stage for the heroics.

With the leadoff hitter reaching base in the 10th and then being moved to 2nd on a fielder’s choice, the drillers decided to intentional walk Darryl Cameron to put runners on first and second with one out. Another single set the stage for the winning run to be scored. On an infield hit, Lee Pelham scored what would become the winning run in Pelham's most enthusiastic game of the summer so far.

Graham Bona picked up the win in relief of Joe Purchase, pitching 7 strong innings.

A real team effort was needed to win this game and it showed today, it was almost provincial like......

Pelham is set to play the same Driller's this Wednesday at 7:30 on Beazley Field.
